When you are in the pub capital of the world, it is only right you allow your tongue to taste as many ales as possible. Almost every tourist is on a limited time and would want to go to the most interesting pubs during their holiday. To help you sort through the maze of downtown pubs, we have prepared a list of the most interesting ones. Get ready for pub hopping and it is ok to start at the lunchtime
A famous pub on the East end, The Archers is a traditional English pub filled with locals. Though their filament light bulbs are new, you get the same East end experience. If you get there by the evening, ask for a beer from the fridge.
If you have Irish in your blood and a typical English pub won’t do, head over to the Auld Shillelagh. The cosy little place gets lively during the football and rugby season. What should you drink? Guinness of course! They are famous for their sporadic music nights and their big screen TV. Based in New Stokes, this is a nice piece of Ireland in the Queen’s country.
Enough of all the pretentious ‘themed’ pubs? Get to The Bell for a laid-back boozer time. Don’t be surprised to see families and friends partying till late. Remember to try out their six authentic British ales. They have a DJ and the music is blaring on Saturdays.
The Star Tavern
If you want to mix your beer with a bit of history, head down to The Star Tavern in Belgravia. Built in the early 19th century, almost every part of this pub has a historical connection. They hatched the Great Train Robbery plan in the grand upstairs room in the sixties. And yes, they have a great selection of beer too.
The Grenadier used to be the Officer’s Mess for a regiment of her Majesty’s Royal Army. In 1818, it was converted into a pub. With 100 years of history, the pub has seen its share of celebrities and Royalty. If you want to experience the traditional pint and a pub lunch, head over to the Grenadier during the day.
The Dog and Duck, Soho
The last pub on our list is the place where George Orwell drank. It has a great Victorian interior and Madonna seems to love this place too.
